She cried out and he swallowed the sound, pumping his hips in a steady rhythm, moaning against her sweet lips. Her sheath seized him, pulled him inside with each rocking movement. She met him stroke for stroke, digging her hands into his ass, urging him to drive into her harder, faster.
He growled and she chanted his name. Pleasure coiled at the base of his spine. Shifting, he palmed her ass and tilted her hips toward him, rubbing the base of his cock over her clit with each downward stroke. Her scent surrounded him, her body engulfing him. He took refuge in the storm raging through him, couldn’t stop—even if someone held a gun to his head—unable to sense anything other than the beautiful woman in his arms.
Her warmth drew in his cold soul. Pleasure coiled. He looked up, needing an anchor in the swirling haze of gratification. Alyssa’s hair spread out across the white comforter like fiery tendrils, almost as if floating on the same haze of electricity fulminating through the air. Pleasure/pain filled her eyes, and tears overflowed. She froze, then bowed beneath him, cresting, losing all sense of rhythm. Her pussy rippled around his cock, milking him, her cries of ecstasy permeated his head, pierced the unmistakable wet sounds of great sex.
Unadulterated ecstasy pulsed from the base of his spine and shot straight through his dick before spreading outward to his limbs, engulfing him, swathing him in carnal delight. Shouting her name, he pumped to draw out the orgasm for them both.
Long moments later, he fell on top of her, exhausted, sated, captivated.
Chapter Six
Alyssa pulled the black yoga pants over her hips, and tiptoed across the plush, cream-colored carpet, before reaching for her running shoes. She peeked over her shoulder again at the still sleeping Nate, all the while feeling like a criminal sneaking around. He lay on his stomach, arms wrapped around the pillow under his head, the dark blue sheet covering the very tempting ass she’d had her hands on.
She stepped into one shoe, then the other, still watching for any sign he was awake. She should be relaxed, sated, and thankful. Instead, she was on edge, nervous, and wondering if they would both have regrets.
He had pushed her responses, denied any reprieve, and when she finally gave in to him, he accepted no less than everything she could offer. Their first joining still sent shivers of delight across her skin, her pussy clenched with renewed desire, and her cheeks heated with the wanton way she acted. He’d woken a few times, demanding more—more of her submission, more of her body, more of her—and she had yielded to his soft-spoken commands with immediate surrender.
Her gaze cut over to the alarm clock next to the bed, reading the red numbers with apprehension and reluctance. Spinning away from the temptation lying in bed, she grabbed her wallet, phone and keys, and headed out the door.

A soft chiming roused Nate from sleep. Somewhere in the room paper crinkled. The ring of a phone followed. A weak curse soon after. Curling his lips, he rolled to his back, stretched his arms overhead, glutted on sexual bliss. Alyssa stood across the room, fumbling and dropping a brown bag on a table, before answering her cell phone.
“Hello?” Her loud whisper enough to wake the dead had him shaking with a silent chuckle.
Her spine went ramrod straight, almost as if she’d received a command to pop to attention. Immediately on alert, he sat up and fisted the sheet. She hadn’t faced him and wariness played across her features, her attention focused on the ground. Soft morning light shone into the room, brushing across the golden-red tendrils swept up into a messy ponytail. She wore black stretchy pants, a white pullover, and tennis shoes. Plain as bread and butter, but she exuded every bit the sexual goddess he’d met the night before. He battled with indecision over his curiosity for who was on the phone and his building need—for her.
“Um, yes, sir. Very much so.” Touching her forehead, she swayed on her feet and he frowned. Every instinct screamed for him to go to her, demand information, and protect her. He couldn’t move though, she had yet to turn to him. If she truly needed his help, she would ask. An independent, strong-willed, and tough woman, she handled the most extreme of circumstances, even under pressure.
“Of course.” She paused to listen to the caller on the other end of the line. Her eyes snapped open. Starbursts of color flashed her cheeks bright pink from whatever she been doing, face slack with surprise. “I understand. Yes, sir. I appreciate the call. Uh, huh. You, too. See you then.”
Pulling the phone away, she touched the screen, then stared ahead unseeing. Nate clasped the sheet and battled with questioning her. After having her screaming and moaning in his ear all night, the silence was deafening, the room devoid even of white noise.
“Alyssa?”
She blinked, shook her head, and walked to the bed. When she sat, he reached for her, unable to keep from touching her. Glancing at their joined hands, she brought her gaze to his with a tremendous smile.
“I got breakfast and the job, Nate.”
It took a few seconds for the words to sink in then he let out a whoop. Diving across the bed, he tugged her until she lay beneath him. “You got the job.”
Her lips trembled. The lines of stress he’d noticed the day before smoothed away. “Yes.”
On impulse, he clamped his mouth over hers. She met his kiss, entwining her tongue around his, stroking velvet across his. Each of his senses came alive. Her touch feathered across his cheeks. The taste of coffee on her lips drifted down his throat. The scent of strawberries sank into his lungs, and her soft sighs mixed with his she was all he knew existed. The caress extended, and his cock hardened with wanting her again, hot, and fiery with desire. He shifted and pushed her legs open with his knees so she cradled him.
Lifting his head, he was riveted to the sight of her moist and swollen lips. “Congratulations. While I’m sad you won’t be my training partner anymore, I’m elated for you. You’ve wanted this for a long time, and becoming a detective is something I think you’ll excel at.”
She squeezed her legs. Cool fingers slid through his hair and he sighed with pleasure. Her touch drove him insane, ramping up his longing to sink inside her, have her wrapped around him.
“Thank you. I couldn’t agree with you more.” She paused, glancing away almost shyly.
Nate guided her chin back to meet his stare again. “Hey, what’s this?”
She swallowed, the action and her shyness so damn vulnerable. He pulled back, fighting to listen to what she had to say.
“I report to work on Monday, at the bureau. I’m sure they’ll assign you a great new partner, but know that the last six months have been wonderful. I enjoyed spending time with you.”
Enjoyed? As in past tense? Like she wouldn’t be spending any more with him?
Fuck.
That.
He smothered his anger and spoke in an even, calm tone. “I enjoyed it, too. But you know something? While I soaked in every minute I spent with you on the road, savored each word you said to me, and learned a vast deal about how to survive on the streets, there is something more here. You know what that is?”
Her expression softened.
“I thought so.” He brought his face to hers until they were inches apart. “I cherished every touch, every sound, and each discovery with you last night. There has never been another woman, or time, when I’ve been so complete. You did that to me, no one else. And one night with you is never going to be enough. I want a lifetime, or at least a chance.”
Alyssa’s lips morphed into a sad smile. She tilted her head and cupped his cheek. He closed his eyes and pressed a kiss to the palm.
“I’ll beg if I have to. Ask me for anything, and I’ll give it to you, just take this gamble with me. Give us a possibility.”
She tugged and he went willingly. Brushing her mouth over his, she spoke against it. “I’m difficult, Nate.”
He smiled. “I know.”
Her chuckle released some tension in his chest. “I’ll work long hours.”
“As will I.”
r /> “Higher-ups will probably frown on the relationship.”
Nipping her bottom lip, he soothed away the hurt with a rasp of his tongue. “I could give a shit.”
She laughed and happiness swelled inside him. Fantasies for so long had pushed him to act, take a chance, and he finally had. The outcome, the pure delight he experienced with her something he welcomed. Their lives would be hard, much of it drawn by their careers, but without a doubt, with her by his side—and he by hers—they would get through hurdles and watch each other’s backs. As he would protect her and guard what he vowed to earn: her heart…and her love.
Nate rolled his hips oh-so-slowly and held her gaze.
“Again….”
